PennDOT has reduced speed limits on I-81 in Lebanon County to improve safety as emergency crews manage ongoing incidents, including a crash involving a tractor-trailer hauling a prefab mobile home near the Interstate 78 split in Union Township.

The tractor-trailer veered off the road into the bushes earlier in the day, causing extensive damage to the mobile home. Crews are working to break apart and remove the debris, with cleanup expected to last until 5 p.m., PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler said.

Adding to the traffic chaos, a new multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 78 westbound at mile marker 3 has blocked both lanes, authorities said. Traffic is being rerouted to the shoulder.

Schreffler noted foggy, rainy conditions in the area earlier in the day, though no official causes of the crashes have been determined.

PennDOT previously reported multiple crashes on I-81 in the same area, all of which have since been cleared. Lane restrictions and delays persist as cleanup efforts continue.

No injuries have been reported in any of the incidents, Schreffler confirmed.

Drivers are advised to adhere to the reduced speed limits, avoid the area if possible, and expect extended travel times.
